You are saved by grace! (Ephesians 2:5b CSB)
Salvation brings peace. Obviously, the backdrop of this great verse above is darkness in that Paul describes the person before having been saved. He uses words like those who have “fleshly desires, carrying out the inclinations of our flesh and thoughts, and we were by nature children under wrath…” The reality is I didn’t have to work hard at all to live out my evil ways and, thankfully, I don’t have to work at all to be saved from my evil ways. I am “saved by grace!” Because I am saved by grace, I can rest in this grace. My salvation is not past–it is very present–and because of this I can REST! My religion doesn’t keep me going. My good works don’t keep me going. My years of service to the Lord don’t keep me going. Jesus does–and the grace that I’ve experienced through Him. The way to a renewed walk today is by staring at the grace of God in contrast to who you were beforehand! It saved you and is saving you!
