Mile Marker 06-21-18

Therefore, since we also have such a large cloud of witnesses surrounding us, let us lay aside every hindrance and the sin that so easily ensnares us. Let us run with endurance the race that lies before us. (Hebrews 12:1 CSB)

I’m beginning to call these “posts” Mile Markers because a mile marker tells you a lot. I’m particularly thinking about a race. When I’m running a 5k, 10, half-marathon, or marathon the mile marker informs me. It tells me where I am. It tells me how far I have to go. It informs my immediate thinking regarding slowing down, speeding up, and they just overall inform me on the bigger picture of the entire course. That’s why I love running…it illustrates the Christian life, the race of faith.

I’m not sure where you are today in the Race of Faith, but it’s the most important race you could experience. Running a marathon is interesting. One minute you’re feeling great and the next moment you’re suffering. One minute you’re having regrets about the commitment and the next moment you’re committing to the next race. It’s strange. But the reality is, that is a lot like our Christian life. I desire to be a source of encouragement through these Mile Markers post. I can’t promise them everyday, but as God allows, I desire to encourage the Christian as we run together. And my greatest desire is for all of us to finish the race well. It’ll hurt. But it will be worth it when we see our Savior, Jesus, face to face. He ran and He finished. That’s our focus and He’s our prize. Make Him your focus today; run with the end in mind…

keeping our eyes on Jesus, the source and perfecter of our faith. For the joy that lay before him, he endured the cross, despising the shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God. (Hebrews 12:2 CSB)
